| November 17th, 2000 marked the
date of the highly anticipated third annual Armenian Music Awards, which
took place at Glendales 'legendary' Alex Theatre. Although relatively
newer than other albums and acts represented, Hokis Volume Meg was nominated
for three awards including Best Video for "Inche Butjarad," Best
Dance Album and Best Newcomer. Among the formally-clad Awards show attendees,
Hokis demonstrated its unconventional, laid-back style by arriving at the
red-carpet affair in sneakers and fresh, extravagant attire. And sure enough,
this relaxed and offbeat attitude fared well throughout the awards ceremony.
Though in the end they werent AMA 'Anoush' statuette recipients, Hokis
took this all in stride, maintaining entertainment and goodwill -- not awards
and recognition -- as its #1 love, priority and purpose.
Hokis made a bold statement during the month of November by emerging onto the L.A. Armenian scene in a very big and noticeable way. Following a hectic week of performances, television interviews and a whirlwind of publicity, they appeared on the Armenian Music Awards with a live rendition of "Inche Butjarad," which is leading in votes as Favourite Performance of 2000 on the AMA website (armenianmusicawards.com). Later, a 3-track impromptu show, at the request of the hosts, surprised and energized partygoers at the AMA afterparty. As the first-ever British-Armenians to create such a promising movement for music and youth, Hokis brought a fresh, vibrant and colorful flair to the already-exciting Armenian Music Awards.
